Design a Poster to promote the 2015 Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras.

It’s hard to deny that the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras looks like an amazing experience . When we  started this project I wanted to knock some cliche’s out of the way  but found myself engulfed in an impressive collection of drag queen imagery. The thing that grasped my attention was the elaborate eye makeup applications. I  thought the graphic shapes would lend themselves to an interesting Type package.

Even though Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator are all amazing applications that I couldn't live without, I wanted to try. I decided to approach this series of imagery from a fully hands on perspective. I started by interviewing a few friends of mine about recurring dreams they have had. I asked each person to handwrite their story for me. I then used my Holga lomography camera to photograph each person in their beds. Once the film was developed, I scanned the images and printed them on canvas paper. I used Acrylic paint to illustrate their dream environments over the portraits and finished the images by projecting their handwritten text onto the paintings and tracing each letter in paint. I love the texture and depth that this process created.
